Leeds – Liverpool canal Towpath Improvements
The Canal Towpath Improvements Phase II project involved the upgrade and improvement of a section of the Leeds - Liverpool canal, located in Bootle Town Centre, Sefton. In 2006 Wrenco Contractors completed a 2-km section of the same canal using ‘Colas Fibredec’ as the finish material for the towpath. However the client, Sefton MBC, decided that they wanted to install a higher specification finish and sought our opinions and experience. Wrenco Contractors are an approved installer of Tarmac’s ‘Mastertint’ coloured macadam paving and suggested this material as a potential alternative. Sefton MBC decided that it was a financially viable option and works began. The project involved the installation of new treated timber edgings, Mot sub base, DBM base course with a 30mm surface course of coloured DBM. The works were carried out to the satisfaction of our client and the local residents who commended the improved appearance.
